The Solution
A timber dome is, durable and adaptable to any site or working method. The Dome is cost effective against any agricultural type building when foundations, retaining walls, lifespan and maintenance are considered.
The roof is constructed from factory made stressed skin wooden panels sourced from sustainable forests.
The roof sits on a reinforced concrete ring beam wall which is continued under the entrance. The ringbeam is cast on site on top of an asphalt or concrete pad which is normally laid by the customer.
The use of timber and C50 concrete ensure long life and low maintenance in contact with rock salt. The continuity between the roof, wall and pad ensure that any leachate is contained in the building.
The building is naturally ventilated through roof vents to control moisture and a fan extracts vehicle fumes. There is no condensation in a timber building.
With a shape that follows the profile of bulk stockpiled material, sufficient clear floor area can be designed in which with a large door will allow tipping of delivery vehicles and the loading of gritters inside the building, eliminating salt losses in the yard.
Standard sizes range from 10 to 50 metres in diameter hold 500 to 25,000 tonnes. The ‘stretched’ DE series are well suited for rectangular sites whilst the capacity of the barrel range is limited only by restrictions in site length.
Roof profiles and shingle colours can be changed to suit planning requirements and the Dome has become the building of choice for many Highway Authorities with over 110 now in use in the UK. The Dome building has a smaller frontal area and is less obtrusive than a portal frame building of the same capacity.
Dome UK can assist customers in the planning approval processes using a scale model and photo montage of the proposed building in location from several angles.
