Storing Bulk Materials

Whilst effort in the UK has been concentrated on developing the Dome for storage of road salt the building has been used worldwide for the storage of a wide range of materials including potash, fertilisers, biomass and waste.

The large clear span, strong construction and low maintenance even in contact with corrosive materials make the Dome ideal for product handled by front end loader or conveyor. The size and shape of the Dome can be adapted to suit a wide range of bulk densities and angles of repose.

Where there is high volume throughput Domes can be loaded by external conveyor. The roof profile is steep to contain the pile height which results from discharge from the conveyor. These high strength buildings can be further reinforced to support the conveyor weight at the apex.

Multiple doorways can be included with larger buildings to assist front end loader handling and despatch activities. Reclaim systems can be installed in the floor or under an extended porch to maximise usable floor space.

The Dome and its construction materials have been evaluated by the Warrington and Chilworth fire research organisations to identify how the building may be used with products such as sawdust which can generate flammable dusts.
